ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Sunday's fatal dirt bike crash was one of several fatal incidents over the weekend, including a man who jumped from the South Avenue parking garage with his infant son.

The man died, but the infant survived.

Incidents like these, and in such close proximity to each other, has the city's police union worried about the mental well-being of its officers.

The Locust Club said they encourage officials who need it to use counseling services provided.

"Just like you do with anyone else in any line of work, when you have a critical incident or something happened, the first thing we want to do is talk about mental health and just taking care of yourself physically and emotionally, and it’s no different for a police officer,” Adam DeVincentis, Locust Club executive vice president, said.

Another recent incident weighing on first responders is the death of Steven Amenhauser earlier this month. Police say he was intentionally set on fire in his Lyell Avenue apartment and died a few days later.

The police union says it is helping to provide a proper funeral for Amenhauser.
