Protesters rallied at a busy intersection in Webster to remind residents that all Black Lives Matter, and to call out some of the town's elected officials.

Becky Jagla is a Webster resident who came out to share a simple message.

"Just let black people know that they matter, their lives matter, it's super important. This is a big part of history,” Jagla said. “They have been let down on so many levels and it's time to change that. Now is the time to act, to stand, and to do something about it. It's time for change.”

Friday's rally was in direct response to Supervisor Tom Flaherty expressing his displeasure with protesters going to District Attorney Sandra Doorley's home last Friday.

Tiffany Porter of Being Black in the Burbs, a local group that shines a light on anti-black racism in the suburbs, called his statement a racist dog whistle.

"There's black residents in Webster. We don't appreciate his comments on television and in a written statement and he ended it with I'm not racist. Sir, you definitely are. You're whole statement said you were racist," said Porter

Flaherty told Spectrum News earlier this week his concern wasn't with the act of protesting, but rather with the venue, saying protesting at the DA's house is unprecedented.

On Friday, protesters showed pictures of Webster Police Department salaries.

Jagla feels this information is important to show because it highlights how she feels those funds can be spent in the community.

"They are making enormous amounts of money, that money could go towards other things to help our black community," said Jagla.

This group is saying they will no longer tolerate or accept silence or willful ignorance from their elected leaders.

"We are going to continue until these town supervisors and town mayors who have been complacent and sitting back with racist ideals and policies. We are going to continue doing this until they start changing things, that's what we are doing. We want to dismantle racist systems and a lot of it resides in the suburbs," said Porter.
