That's why U-PREP will continue to offer virtual grief support throughout the remainder of the week. Rochester City Schools is also providing virtual counseling for students.

Deputy Superintendent Melody Martinez-Davis said the district will decide on how many counselors are going to be needed at R-Centers on a day by day basis depending on what the students' needs are. However, she said regardless there is always someone around to listen when help is needed.

"If all they need is just someone to talk to, your counselors, your teachers are here for you," said Martinez-Davis. "If you need a place to come together with your friends and grief together the R-center's are there with our mental health staff too."

Martinez-Davis said counselors can be available online if requested, and R-Centers always have counselors rotating.

She said students had emotional learning time built into their virtual classes Monday following the mass shooting Saturday morning.

Rochester City Council Vice President, Willie Lightfoot, said adults need to do a better job at telling children it's okay to use these resources.

"I think that we have, there's a stigma I believe in our community especially the Black and brown community around seeing psychologists or talking to mental health professionals," said Lightfoot. "I think, often times, that just not something we speak of with our children and we talk about in our spaces, in our families, in our communities historically. So I think ultimately we're going to have to bring these services to the individuals as opposed to looking for them to come and seek out the services."

The Rochester City School District has a 24 hour Social and Emotional Learning, or SEL, hotline: 585- 271-7670.
