Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren is calling for residents of the city to respond with hope and kindness after a violent Fourth of July weekend that saw 13 people shot throughout the city, and says she's grateful that the Rochester police officer attacked Sunday is recovering.

Warren says violence that Rochester, and other American cities, are seeing is the result of the pandemic, economic struggles, and anger over injustice.

"It is on all of us to respond not in fear, but with hope. I encourage everyone to reach out to their neighbors, show strength through kindness, and commit ourselves to building Rochester up by doing the right thing," she says.
