The owner of a music school in Parma is facing new charges after child porn was allegedly found on his laptop.

Phillip Close, 42, was previously charged with second-degree unlawful surveillance, a felony. He’s accused of placing a camera in the unisex bathroom inside the school.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the camera was found by the parent of an underage student last Thursday. It’s still unclear how long the camera was in the bathroom; however investigators have seized multiple digital devices.

On Tuesday, federal prosecutors charged Close with production of child pornography.

Close allegedly admitted to the responding sheriff’s deputy that the camera found in the bathroom was his. Prosecutors said a preliminary review of a seized laptop uncovered three videos involving a minor.

The school, which opened since 2016, has served about 80 to 100 people of all ages.

"We really want to establish a list of any clients, whether they can be potential victims or not, just so we have names available and we can reach out,” said Sgt. Michael Thomas, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Tammy Paul says she has two kids who attended the Close School of Music on West Ridge Road. She says she was surprised to hear of the initial charges.

“We all used the bathroom here. It's very upsetting to hear a thing like this,” said Paul.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing. Investigators are looking for other potential victims. Anyone with information is asked to call the office records unit at 585-753-4175.
