The Monroe County Board of Elections is tallying up the absentee ballots and affidavits from the election earlier this month.

Approximately 4,300 absentee ballots and almost 1,000 affidavits were processed at the BOE's Training Service Center in Brighton.

"So there’s a lot of excitement, a lot of interest... a lot of nerves that we’re dealing with today," said Republican Monroe County Board of Elections Commissioner Doug French.

The first to be counted were the closest eight races.

"We brought the 5,300 ballots out here and the envelopes are being sliced and there’s a bipartisan team Board of Elections worker at each table that are removing the ballot from the envelopes," said French.

The two candidates for Monroe County Legislative District 13 stood next to each other awaiting results.

The count placed Democrat Michael Yudelson in the seat, who now wins by 71 votes over challenger and Republican Matt Borkowski. Yudelson says a top priority for him as a county legislator will be the budget.

"The Democratic candidates for legislature, including me, ran on the position that we were on board with Adam [Bello’s] message to voters about having a new way of doing things in government. Hopefully working with people on the other side of the aisle and improving things for Monroe County residents," said Michael Yudelson, (D) Monroe County legislator-elect.
