A new law on child safety seating in vehicles is phasing in come November for New Yorkers.

All children under the age of two will be required to be placed in a rear-facing car seat. The law is meant to make sure young children have protection in the case of a crash or sudden stop.

State officials recommend always checking to make sure your child is properly restrained in their car seat and getting it checked out, if you're unsure, at a local fitting station or safety check event.

Officials said to avoid buying used child safety seats that may be expired or missing parts.
