It has been more than a month since Joel Stephany of Lima went missing and the Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help. His mother, Wendy Brennan, hung flyers Sunday in hopes that someone will come forward.

Brennan remained strong Sunday with the help of a support system that included family, friends, and volunteers. They canvassed the streets and hung flyers along N. Clinton Avenue, in hopes for leads and answers. Stephany, 27, has been missing for over a month now. He was reported missing on August 29.

Brennan, recalls her last encounter with her son.

"Last time I talked to him was Tuesday on August 25,” Brennan said. “That was two days before we found out he was missing. He had actually stayed over my house that night. I was just leaving for work, so I gave him a quick goodbye and gave him a kiss."

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies say Stephany was last seen on August 27 in the area of N. Clinton Avenue in Rochester, wearing green pants and a blue flannel shirt. A friend reportedly dropped him off there, but does not recall exactly where. Brennan says after not hearing from her son, she knew something was wrong.

"I tried to call him a couple times over the next couple of days and his phone was going straight to voicemail,” Brennan said. “Then I got a text on Thursday from a friend of his that said he stopped at Joel’s house. 'It looked like no one had been around in a couple days to take care of the animals,’ and he said, he had dropped Joel off Tuesday night in the city."

Brennan says it is not like Stephany to leave behind two dogs he loves.

“He loves his family and his dogs are his life,” Brennan said.

Brennan says investigators are following up on every lead, but she is also taking initiative to find her son. This includes canvassing where Stephany was last seen. She is also asking for the public’s help.

"I believe somebody must know something,” Brennan said. “If anyone knows anything, and can let us know any information that can lead to finding Joel, and getting him home, please contact the Monroe County Sheriff's department, crime stoppers, or his mom, or dad."

Area non-profits Hope Dealers and S.OA.R.S, offered a helping hand in the search for Stephany.

Stephany is six-feet tall, 190 pounds, and has long brown hair. He has a roman numeral tattoo on his left arm. Authorities ask anyone with information to call 911.
