A Western New Yorker has joined the International Joint Commission (IJC)’s the International Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board.

The body, which regulates lake levels, appointed Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich on Tuesday. It had been looking to expand its membership since July, by adding two positions.

The commission said it agreed that new members would be helpful to “assist in their efforts to document the human and social impacts of recent flooding at the local and municipal levels in order to enrich the board’s discussions and decisions.”

The 12-member board, equally American and Canadian, determine the outflow of lake water through the Moses-Saunders Power Dam.

Reilich stepped down as Monroe County Republican Chairman in June. At the time, he said he wanted to continue helping the community which had suffered multiple issues following flooding, windstorms and snowstorms.

Reilich’s appointment was supported by Senator Chuck Schumer and Congressman Joe Morelle.
