The Puerto Rican festival is happening all weekend at Frontier Field, marking half a century of celebrating Puerto Rican pride in Rochester.

There will be plenty of food, live music and dancing to enjoy.

Between 5,000 and 7,000 people are expected to attend each day.

Rochester police said they prepare an operational plan for the festival, as they do for all large-scale events like this.

They urge festival goers to follow laws and be respectful.

Late-night celebrations following the Puerto Rican Festival have caused some public safety challenges in the past.

The Northeast Safety Committee is doing what it can to help share a positive message to celebrate safely.

“We are working at making sure that our roads are kept open especially for emergency vehicles. We are asking people not to congregate in the streets or block streets,” said Rose Mary Villarubia-Izzo with the Northeast Safety Committee. “The fact is the safety and welfare of this community is a priority. If you want to have pride, do it safely."

The Puerto Rican Festival continues through Sunday night.
