A former McQuaid Jesuit female faculty member was found to have had an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student, according to police.

In a letter sent home to parents, the school says it first learned of the allegation in late May. It was a report of sexual misconduct in 2016 between the staff member and a graduated senior. The school took the information to the Brighton Police Department and launched a criminal investigation.

Chief Mark Henderson confirmed Wednesday that a faculty member did have a consensual relationship with the student. However, due to the nature of their relationship and the student's age, there will be no charges.  The statute of the limitations also ran out on endangering welfare charges.

Both the school and police say they don't believe any other students or staff members are involved.

McQuaid leaders said in a statement:

"As educators, we are entrusted to protect and educate all of our students, and there are certain  boundaries that cannot be crossed. We do not and will not tolerate behavior that crosses those boundaries, or threatens to compromise the safety and well-being of any of our students or community members."
