You’ve probably seen and heard these type of stories in other parts of the country, where folks rescue people from raging flood waters.

That’s exactly what happened Thursday in Mount Morris.

When Dave Wirth discovered a woman was trapped in her car that was stuck in flood waters behind his house, he took action to rescue her.

"I ran out back and took the boat and took it down the creek," he said.

Wirth said he was able to pull the woman to safety within five minutes.

"We grabbed her and threw her in the boat," he said.

As fast as the rain fell, that's as quickly as Ridge Road receded, with the car now in full view.

Wirth doesn't consider his actions heroic — saying he only did what he had to do.

"I'm just glad that I was here," he said. "I would hope somebody would do the same for me if I was in that position."

Wirth says he didn't know the woman, but she told him she's lived here 30 years. He said she seemed OK physically but was quite shaken up having gone through this ordeal.
