The Spencerport Volunteer Firemen's Association says it will give refunds to those affected by a power outage at the final day of its annual carnival.

"It's one of the first carnivals in Monroe County and we're very proud to host this every year," said Aaron Baker, Spencerport Volunteer Firemen's Association. "I think people just want to come out and experience it and have some fun. We're glad people came out and we are apologizing for the inconvenience that this caused a lot of families."

Organizers had what they called an "unprecedented" power outage on Saturday when a generator went down, knocking most of the carnival rides out of commission.

The event is a fundraiser for the Spencerport Volunteer Fire Department. Trucks from the fire station were brought in to light up the site in the meantime, and a generator was set up before the end of the night.

Food stands and game tents were still open as live music entertained the crowd.

The fire association will be giving refunds between noon and 2 p.m. at the fire department's station at 175 Lyell Avenue. It's only available for unused tickets and wristbands purchased on Saturday.

Ride operator Hammerl Musements of Buffalo says tickets will also be honored at Hamlin Firemen's Carnival next weekend and the East Rochester Firemen's Carnival on the last weekend in July.
