More than 200 people braved the cold on Irondequoit Bay to go ice fishing at the annual Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday.

Competitors drilled their ice fishing holes and hunkered down in hope of reeling in a big catch. Cash prizes went to the top three fishers in biggest perch and biggest pike.

The event started 23 years ago, but every couple of years the weather is uncooperative.

"If you're a fisherman you love this weather and you look forward to it and it brings them down," said Bayside General Manager, Robert Buono. "It's just fun bringing the kids and grandkids out here fishing, that's the best thing about it for me."

To sustain the future of fishing in the area, the event required anglers to quickly return the fish they did not wish to keep back into the water.
