People across the Rochester area are mourning the passing of a local Vietnam veteran who worked tirelessly as an advocate for fellow veterans.

Flags at Monroe County buildings are being flown at half-staff in honor of Ken Moore. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, and worked at Kodak before working with the Veterans Outreach Center and the Monroe County Veterans Service agency.

"People love him. You wouldn't find somebody who would tell you anything but that, they just love him," said Veterans Outreach Center Executive Director, Laura Stradley. "He always went out of his way to help everybody, I know I've probably said that about ump-teen times.  That's just who he was and I think he would be very happy to know that was the legacy he left behind."

Moore was battling cancer at the time of his passing. Funeral arrangements have not yet been set.

"Ken was a great friend to all veterans and to me personally, often providing valuable counsel and advice on key veterans issues," said Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo in a statement.

Moore's calling hours are next Friday, the 15th, at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home on East Avenue in Hilton from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

His memorial service is the next day at the funeral home at 11 a.m.

Moore will be buried in the spring in Greenwood Cemetary.

You can make a donation in his memory to Honor Flight Rochester, the Veterans Outreach Center or the Rochester Veterans Court Mentors.
