The University of Rochester announced who its new president will be Monday morning.

The college has named Sarah Manglesdorf as president. She is currently the provost at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 

Manglesdorf is also a psychology professor recognized for her research on the social and emotional development of inants and young children.

Manglesdorf will be the first woman to lead the university when she takes office next summer.

"We talk here in Rochester about making the world ever-better and we do in so many ways," Mangelsdorf said. "One of my responsibilities is that we stay on this course and that we have the resources to do so. One of my other responsibilites will be to make sure that more people know about it. The U of R makes significant contributions to the world and the world should know that."

Mangelsdorf says she looks forward to expanding on a committment to enhancing local engagement when she formally takes office next summer.

She replaces Richard Feldman who has held the position since the retirement of former president Joel Seligman at the end of February.
