The case against one of the priests removed by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester has been closed by the Brighton Police Department.

Father Thomas Valenti and Erick Viloria were removed from public ministry following an independent investigation and recommendation by the diocesan review board. The two former priests are restricted from engaging in public ministry or referring to them self as a cleric.

Viloria was the Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Peace parish in Geneva. The diocese said in a statement it received a claim in August that he acted inappropriately over social media with another adult.

The Brighton Police Department investigated the claims and determined the statute of limitations had run out. Viloria will not be charged.

Valenti, who recently served at Blessed Trinity-Saint Patrick's in Tioga County, faces the same restrictions. He was asked to step down from his duties over the summer after allegations he sexually abused a minor dating back to the 1970's. Valenti denies the allegations.

Both priests have the right to appeal the decision.
