A man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle on Rochester's Lyell Avenue on Tuesday evening.

Police say this happened near the intersection of Wetmore Park just east of Mt. Read Boulevard around 8:30 p.m.

The victim was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

According to officers, the driver stayed at the scene and did not appear to be at fault and is not expected to be ticketed.

Family members identified the victim as 63-year-old William "Billy" McGary.

A candlelight vigil and balloon release is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the corner Lyell Ave. and Wetmore Park.
