ONTARIO COUNTY, N.Y. — After a generation of student resource officers, Ontario County public school campuses are now all staffed with SROs.

Students at Finger Lakes Technical Career Center in Flint appear glad to have the same old deputy "Storie" back. Deputy David Storie served as SRO eight years ago before funding for his assignment ran out. The county, BOCES and local and state government found a way to pay for it again.

The sheriff and local leadership buy into the impact SROs make beyond campus too.

"We clear a lot of crimes. And a lot of crimes are brought to our attention," said Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero.

While the city police forces in Geneva and Canandaigua take care of those districts, the Ontario County Sheriff's Office will staff the seven other public school campuses.

Deputy Storie says success still comes down to helping kids see the value of connecting.

"Just keep a general presence and keep a good rapport with the students."
