AVON, N.Y. — Operation Build Up is celebrating a new location that gives it space to make an even bigger difference in the lives of veterans.
Their mission is to reduce the 22 suicides per day of veterans across the country.
The new garage in Avon gives Operation Build Up more room to fix and donate vehicles to veterans in need.
“We started this in my driveway," says Operation Build Up founder Justin Cogswell, who has spent the past two years on his passion project. "Just a couple of Marines laying on our backs and now we got this huge location with lifts and tools we don’t know how to use yet. It’s really going to help us get to the next level so we are excited about what the future holds.”
Each year, the nonprofit surprises 60 vets with a vehicle.
According to Operation Build Up, this new garage is just the first step. They want to help veterans all over the nation who are struggling with transportation.
The organization says several major TV networks have reached to them to document the work they are doing.
“Ever since they’ve come into our lives, they’ve changed our lives with just a simple vehicle," says Army veteran Brandi Christie. "People take for granted just the small aspects like that."
About 40 veterans have volunteered to work on cars that Operation Build Up donates.
