ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The summer heat can create major car trouble if drivers don't do some simple maintenance before they hit the road.

Redi Imports is already dealing with customer car problems from stranded motorists this summer.

Maintenance checks are recommended at least twice a year.

Drivers are encouraged to have the battery checked, fluids topped off and tires inflated to proper levels to prevent a blowout.

"As the temperature increases, the tire pressure also slightly increases so it is a good idea to check tire pressure several times a year as tires are the one connecting point between you and the road," said Ryan Lynch of Redi Imports. "A good technician or repair shop will be able to check things such as batteries, belts and hoses and cooling systems to prevent you from being stranded on the side of the road."

AAA says be prepared for a summer breakdown and have an emergency kit in your car with water, snacks, first aid kit, flashlight and jumper cables.
