DARIEN LAKE, N.Y. — Thrill seekers were lined up early Friday morning to be among the first to ride Darien Lake’s new coaster, the Tantrum.

Riders go up a 90 degree angle, 98 feet straight up into the air, before falling back down toward the earth.

This is the seventh coaster at Darien Lake and the first new one in a decade.

The ride cost about $5 million, an amount park officials says it’s a good investment, not only for the park but for the whole region, considering the ride enthusiasts that will come to the area to try it out.
