St. John Fisher College's softball coach Bari Mance was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer.

Though her treatments have intensified, she continues to coach her nationally-ranked Cardinals, while encouraging other women to get themselves checked.

"If I had to start all over again, when I noticed something first, I probably would have gone to the doctor. And that's kind of what I've been preaching to my family, my friends, these girls, if something doesn't look right or feel right, just get it checked out. I was lucky because the tumor was the more aggressive type, but I ended up having another cancer site, completely unrelated on the same right side and if I had not gone to the doctor, who knows? I'm too young for the test, it would've been years, so, cancer might have saved my life," she said.

Mance will receive the Christine Wagner Inspiration Award from the Press Radio Club in June.
