Town of Brighton officials are looking to shut down a local pawn shop after investigators raided Mr. Deals and arrested the shop's owner and another employee.

Brighton Town Supervisor Bill Moehle says closing down the pawn shop is in the best interest of the town. Officials filed the motion in court on Wednesday.

“We believe that there's basis for believing that this operation should be closed down and the judge set a hearing to give us the opportunity to do exactly that,” said Moehle.

Investigators raided Mr. Deals on West Henrietta Road on Tuesday. Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say they confiscated stolen merchandise from the pawn shop with an estimated value between $200,000 to $300,000.

Deputies arrested the shop's owner, Marcus Luciano, 29, and 22-year-old store manager John Lombardo, for possession of stolen property and falsifying business records.

“The town apparently tried to initiate some sort of procedure where they wanted a junction granted from my clients being able to operate their business. The judge didn’t grant the release because we weren’t even served notice of that,” said Lombardo's and Luciano's attorney, Gino Nitti.

The items seized included pet supplies, tools, electronics, and over- the-counter medication.

Luciano and Lombardo have pleaded not guilty. Their next court appearance is scheduled for May 29.
