Speculation abounds regarding possible candidates for the 25th Congressional District seat, which became open after Louise Slaughter's death.

Many have said they're still weighing their options before making any formal announcements.

New York State Assembly Majority leader Joseph Morelle says he plans to make a decision in the near future.

Republican State Senator Joseph Robach revealed that he too is considering a run.

Current Deputy Mayor and former Rochester Police Chief Cedric Alexander confirmed Friday morning that he's in talks with his camp about a potential run.

He says he hasn't made a decision, but an announcement is expected by next week.

Andrew Gilchrist from Perinton, who runs an education tech start up, announced earlier this year he would challenge Slaughter for her seat.  He too is working to gather signatures to get on the ballot.

Dr. Jim Maxwell, a Republican neurosurgeon, announced in January that he would run against Louise Slaughter, saying Washington was broken and it was time for someone who wasn't a career politician to fix it.

Petitions to get on the ballot must be filed by April 12th.
