BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Police are asking for people to come forward with information on a fatal shooting in the Village of Brockport Friday.

Brockport Police Chief Dan Varrenti along with the Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn say that 33-year-old Megan Dix of Lyndonville was found dead Friday night with a single gunshot wound to the head.

They say Dix worked at Lowe's in the Village and parked her car nearby for her lunch break around 1 p.m. She would never return to work.

Brockport police say that they were called to South Avenue around 8 p.m. Friday. Officers there found Dix dead inside a black pickup truck in a parking lot used for people on the nearby footpath.

"We are asking for people to call us that may have seen other vehicles in the parking lot, anytime during the day, or if they themselves were in that parking lot," Brockport Police Chief Dan Varrenti said. "Sometimes someone doesn't recognize that what they saw might be important until after they begin talking with us."

Brockport police say they don't believe that this was a random act of violence, but they are asking for anyone with information on the woman's death to come forward.

Lowe's says counselors will be at the Brockport store where Dix worked to talk with employees. It added in a statement in part, "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the death of longtime employee Megan Dix. We are saddened at the loss of a member of our Lowe’s family."
