ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- There's a new occupant in one of Rochester's historic East Avenue mansions for the first time in 63 years.
The Tudor-style building at 935 East Avenue has been home to the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester since 1954.
The diocese tells us they sold the property for $1.2 million to developers, East 935 LLC.
The diocese has moved to rented space in St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Henrietta.
The building falls within the East Avenue Historic District and developers say they intend to market the space to a legal, nonprofit or financial tenant in order to maintain the integrity of the building.
In a message on the diocese website, Bishop Prince Singh issued a statement saying in part, “By the grace of God, we closed on Diocesan House and have invested the proceeds for future mission and ministry. These funds will enter our endowment and will be used to support such things as outreach missions and growth of our congregations.”
