ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A record number of volunteers from the College at Brockport's incoming freshman class participated in the 7th annual Saturday of Service.

Groups of students and faculty members were sent off to three sites across the city for some beautification projects. The Bay Street Community, the Flower City Habitat for Humanity, and the Lower Falls Foundation at Maplewood Park each got a makeover.

More than one thousand students were involved in the event this year.

It was graduate student Laura Wright's 4th year participating and she says it's a great time to meet new people and help others all at the same time.

"When I was a freshman, I came to my site with my LLC," said Wright. "[They] ended up being some of my best friends that year. It just brings everyone together and [you're] doing something for other people than yourself. So it's just awesome and a great experience."

Combined, the students donated a total of 2,700 community service hours during their Saturday of Service.
