WEBSTER, N.Y. -- Runners were out braving the heat in Webster Saturday for the third annual Nick K 5K.
The race honors Nicholas Kapusniak by benefiting scholarships in his name as well as Crime Stoppers in Rochester. The former Webster resident was killed in a drive by shooting in 2014 while attending the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
Kapusniak's fraternity brothers also organize a race in his honor in St. Louis. Organizers hope to draw attention to the violence that has become commonplace in schools and cities.
"Nick was always about giving back and doing service and this was something that we know he was quite happy in doing and we're quite thankful and appreciative and that's why we come every year," said Nick's mother Renee Kapusniak.
The race's St. Louis leg will take place on September 3.
