ROCHESTER, N.Y. --  Expansions and renovations are coming to the Jewish Senior Life senior home in Rochester.

The $83 million project will transform the long-term care housing into a more homelike setting for residents.

Jewish Senior Life President Mike King says the new living spaces will off the opportunity to create a higher standard of living.

"What we've learned is that the environment makes a difference in terms of the way care can be delivered," said King. "When you create smaller spaces, intimate spaces, relationships flourish between the staff and the elders. Meaningful life starts to happen. A sense of community starts to take place in those small intimate places."

Residents also look forward to a little more freedom.

"It's important for every resident to be as independent as possible and the new environment we will be moving into will make us able to use our independence to the full extent that each resident has," said resident Susan Howell.

Jewish Senior Life's new project is expected to be completed in early 2019.
