ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Marching is familiar to those who’ve served.

However, this time they’re marching down East Avenue for Rochester’s annual Memorial Day parade.

“My son’s a Marine," Kathy Lochner of Rochester said.  "And it goes in my heart, especially when I sing the Star-Spangled Banner. It feels super because they go out and fight the war for us, for the United States. And I think the boots are doing good.”

The beautiful weather this Memorial Day brought out some patriotic parade goers and also some first time visitors.

“It’s my first time, it was around the corner, and I love it," Dr. Suzana Ferin of Brighton said. "I like the people here. Why not? These wonderful people fought in the wars for us. I think it’s lovely.”

For Dan Casey of Rochester, it was a chance to bring that appreciation to a new generation.

“It’s a special thing when we appreciate where we were and where we came from, and especially for all those who lost their lives to make this a better country," he said.
