ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A new leader will be in charge when East High begins the new school year as an educational partner with the University of Rochester.
Shaun Nelms takes over as the school's superintendent on September 1. He's served as East's deputy superintendent since July. Nelms had been responsible for the day to day operation of the Educational Partnership Organization plan, along with hiring new teachers and staff. Now he's in charge of everything from operations, to working with unions and the school board.
"I'm most passionate about working with leadership and teacher development. Making sure that when students come to school they feel supported, that teachers feel challenged and supported and that leaders feel like they can put students in place and to improve the conditions of East," said Nelms.
Nelms said he expects about 1,600 students when classes begin on September 8.
