ROCHESTER, N.Y. --  The City of Rochester is an IBM Smarter Cities Challenge winner, selected as one of 16 winners out of a pool of more than 100 cities around the world.

Mayor Lovely Warren said Tuesday that previous grant winners have had significant results, and projects supported by advice from IBM have helped to upgrade skills of city staff, enabled cities to win awards, and made them more competitive.

"As a result of the grant, a team of IBM experts will spend three weeks in Rochester. These experts specialize in management, urban planning, law and environmental science and technology, human recourses, finance, marketing, and more," said Warren, D-Rochester. "They will look at issues of critical importance to our residence; issues like access to jobs, safe neighborhoods and a quality education."

Each grant holds a commercial value of $500,000.
