NAPLES, N.Y. -- Deputies said a Brooklyn man drowned while trying to save his dog which fell through a partially frozen pond in Ontario County.

Deputies said Garvin Brown, 34, and his fiancee were renting a home for the weekend on State Route 21 in Naples where the incident occurred. The couple was in town visiting from New York City.

They said Brown was walking his dog overnight when it fell through the ice into a pond. Brown tried to save the dog from the cold water before falling through the ice himself and drowned.

Deputies said the dog survived.
