GREECE, N.Y. -- Neighbors along the lakeshore in Greece will soon get extra help with their flood insurance.

This comes after historically high water levels on Lake Ontario throughout the spring in summer.

Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich says the town received a class rating reduction from seven to six in the National Flood Insurance Community Rating System.

This means residents will be able to receive a 20 percent discount on their flood insurance policies.

The new class rating also includes improved public safety, property loss reduction, and open space and natural resource protection.

The new rating will go into effect May first of next year.
