FAIRPORT, N.Y. — Almost every place has something unique about it, but for one village outside of Rochester, it’s not just the charm, but a daily occurrence.
“I grab coffee from the Fair Pour, little coffee shop in there, and come out here and we hangout,” said David Wolf of Fairport.
It’s not just hanging out for David Wolf, he’s also keeping an eye out for trains. The Village of Fairport is unique because dozens pass by each day, and there’s usually plenty of spectators to greet them.
“I mean trains are just so nostalgic and so powerful, and just cool, it’s kind of relaxing and therapeutic, the whistle…,” Wolf said.
At times, there’s a decent wait for trains to come by and it’s often quiet or filled with side conversations.
“I really like the slickness of the Amtrak cars, they’re kind of cool. You know we don’t have any bullet trains or anything, but they’re really kind of super aerodynamic, and pretty wild with graffiti. You get some unique graffiti coming up on some of the cars,” said Wolf.
Along with the graffiti, Wolf also paying attention to the scenery around the train, the type of cars, and the sound of the tracks.
“It’s a little cold out there, so you’re hearing nice metal on metal, you know, the train is cold just like we are.”
Despite the cold and snowy weather, it doesn’t stop him from spending time at the viewing platform. Wolf believes it a major part of what makes up Fairport.
“It’s a sense of community, you know it kind of embraces the trains instead of considering it a problem,” said Wolf.
