Former McQuaid star and current La Lumiere center Isaiah Stewart is heading to Washington University next year.
When Stewart played with the Knights, he was visited by then-Syracuse assistant coach Mike Hopkins, who is now the Huskies' head coach. Stewart made the announcement with his family on ESPN at halftime of the IMG-Oak Hill Academy game.
Stewart leads the Lakers, ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Super 25, at 14.6 points and 9.7 rebounds per game this season.
He had narrowed his choices to Washington, Syracuse, Duke, Michigan State, and Kentucky.
The Huskies feature another Rochester native, former Bishop Kearney star Nahziah Carter.
Last July, Stewart led team USA to a gold medal in the FIBA U-17 in Argentina with a game-high 15 points.
According to ESPN's Top 100 recruiting database, Stewart is the fifth best prospect of this year's class.
On top of the school selection, on Thursday Stewart was also named as a member for the McDonald's All-American Game which features the top basketball players in the country.
