Seneca Park Zoo's polar bear, Anoki, is getting her very own special weekend. The zoo is hosting Polar Bear Awareness Weekend to help zoogoers learn about her care and what you can do to help save polar bears from extinction.

Anoki was actually born at the Seneca Park Zoo in 1996. She returned to Rochester in September after her mother, Aurora, passed away from natural causes at the zoo last spring.

Anoki left Seneca Park Zoo in 1998 to go to Albuquerque Biological Park. In 2008, she moved to the Maryland Zoo where she quickly became a guest favorite.

Seneca Park Zoo has been home to polar bears for over 55 years. The zoo has been without a polar bear since April, when Aurora died of natural age-related causes. The return of Anoki was determined through discussions with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP), which manages populations of animals in conservation care.

Anoki weighs 450-600 pounds depending on the season. Her daily caloric intake is 16,375 calories and her favorite snacks are yams and peanut butter.

The zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
