Some students at an elementary school in Brighton are hoping to raise nearly $100,000 this week for life-saving research.

The Kids Heart Challenge begins Monday and runs through Thursday at French Road Elementary School.

More than 800 third, fourth and fifth graders will use jump rope skills to learn how their heart works.

Money raised goes toward the American Heart Association.

French Road Elementary has been the top fundraising school in the country for 20 years, and raised more than $95,000 last year.

Organizers say they hope to earn at least that if not more this year.
