A man originally from Ontario County, who lost his leg and nearly his life when he was hit by a car back in 2012, has risen to the top of the extreme sports world.

Kevin Royston recently won an X-Games bronze medal in the adaptive snow bike cross in Aspen, Colorado.

Royston now lives in Salt Lake City Utah.

He suffered those life threatening injuries when he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Rushville.

The driver of that car was later sent to prison.

Royston is a Phelps native and graduate of Midlakes High School.
