ROCHESTER, N.Y. — More than 200 Rochester City School District students are getting the chance to shadow businesses to learn more about the jobs that are available after graduation.

One group of seniors from Edison Career and Technology High School toured Foodlink on Thursday. They learned how the nonprofit operates and what the jobs it has to offer.

Students have a choice of which business they visit. District officials say their first choice is a company they're thinking about working for after high school.

"Workplace learning, such as job shadowing, internships, co-ops, students who already have jobs, they can get credit towards graduating — are all opportunities to just explore and learn about a particular job and discover, you know, 'maybe I would like doing this or maybe I'd rather do something else, or there are some parts of this job I like and certain parts of this job I hate,'" said Sheldon Cox, RCSD director of career and technical education. "And just kind of help them figure out what's next after high school."

Nearly 40 local businesses teamed up with the city school district to make the program happen.
