ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester City School District and ROC the Future hosted an information session with parents Wednesday night to share how they will keep students safe when they return to the classroom.

Several representatives from the district as well as from area hospitals like URMC and Golisano Children's Hospital took part.

One topic discussed was the transmission rate in schools compared to the general public.

Earlier this month the county had a 7.3% infection rate, while schools that were open in the county made up just 0.72% of positive cases.

Another point was keeping sick kids at home and reminding parents to pre-screen their children for symptoms with a robocall each week.

"What we know on a national level and on a local level is that when kids are infected with COVID-19 almost all of the infections have happened outside of school," said Dr. Jeffrey Kaczorowski, of Golisano Children's Hospital.

ROC the Future is sharing two informational websites for parents on safely returning kids to school.
