IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Families of Bishop Kearney students will have a quick adjustment to make.

School officials announced Tuesday that beginning on Thursday, November 12, the school will go fully virtual through Thanksgiving.

A letter from school officials says the decision to go fully online came after a rise in cases of COVID-19 within the school community, and the state's designation of parts of Monroe County as a "Yellow Zone.

The school says it has students from all parts of Monroe County, and right now, officials believe the "safest course of action for our students, faculty and their families would be to return to remote, online learning for the immediate term."

The letter says that, for now, in-person learning is scheduled to begin again on November 30.

As part of the state rules, schools in the "yellow zone" will need to test at least 20% of its students and staff every two weeks, for as long as it is a designated yellow zone area.
