ROCHESTER, N.Y. — RPD has made an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting of an 18-year-old female on Delamaine Drive last week.

Ciara Grimes, 18, was found shot laying in the driveway and transported to URMC, where she was pronounced dead.

Jermaine M. Brown, Grimes' boyfriend, is accused of shooting her with a .25 caliber pistol, causing her death.

Police say there was a no contact order of protection issued against Brown for Grimes on May 5.

He has been charged with manslaughter in the second degree, felony aggravated criminal contempt and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

Officials say Grimes was shot inside of a home and then brought outside and left in the driveway.

According to police, the residents inside of the house refused to answer the door and a SWAT team had to be called. Melissa Taylor, a neighbor, described the scene.

“They said you need to come out of your house outside of the front porch with your hands in the air. By the time I woke up around 5:30 there was a SWAT team with people with camouflage on and helmets and a machine gun hiding behind my garbage can,” said Taylor.

Brown pleaded not guilty at arraignment in Rochester City Court on Wednesday. He's being held on a $50,000 cash bail and his next court appearance is scheduled for May 21.

Officials say Brown has two pending felonies in another court, one of which is an alleged assault on Grimes.
