ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Starting your own business takes somewhat of a leap of faith, perhaps even more so during the COVID-19 pandemic. One Rochester-area businesswoman took that leap. For expecting families, the in-home services are picture-perfect.

In their Greece living room, Nelson and Brittany Colon looked at some of the first photos, in a growing family album.

“We have two dogs,” said Nelson Colon. “But kids are different than dogs.”

Wife Brittany is pregnant with their first child. About two months into the pregnancy the images of their future are already clear.

Jenny Kron is a photographer and sonographer. The registered diagnostic medical sonographer is the owner of an in-home mobile ultrasound business. Hey Baby Mobile Ultrasound offers 2D, 3D and 4D images from the comfort of an expecting mother’s home. Kron just recently took the business full-time.

“During COVID, a lot of doctor's offices weren't even allowing another person to come into the office for the ultrasound,” said Kron. “So it left a lot of families feeling like something was missing. They were missing that bonding time.”

Kron says it takes about 10 minutes to set up her equipment. Brittany Colon watched the monitor as Kron pointed out the already developing images of her child.

“It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said.

When there were COVID restrictions on doctor visits, obviously the mom couldn’t be the one to stay home.

“Yeah, obviously someone has to go to the appointment,” laughed Kron.

Kron charges a flat fee for her services, depending on which kind of images the family wants. Hey Baby is not covered by insurance. She says her unique business brings families together, as other friends and relatives can attend the sessions, taking in those special moments together.

“I think it's just a very special bonding moment for the whole family to have that opportunity,” said Kron.

“Obviously there's nothing better than being in the comfort of your own home,” said Brittany Colon.

It’s a picture-perfect opportunity for a growing family.

“Being able to bring joy into people's houses not only does wonders for moms. It eases anxiety, and shows them baby's heart beating,” said Kron. “But it brings great joy to me as well.”
