EAST ROCHESTER, N.Y. — An East Rochester 12-year-old has been training for a year to swing into a new Guinness World Record.

Community members passed by his house Wednesday evening wishing him “good luck” on his record attempt Thursday.

The preteen is known throughout town for his swinging, and he’s been at for years now.

“Like 6 years [old], 6 or 7 I think,” said Sean Lewis when asked how long was he interested in swinging.

“He’s been swinging on this swing for years and years and people know that’s what he does,” Kelly Lewis, Sean’s mother, said.

The preteen is now hoping his hobby will break the world swing marathon record.

“I have to beat 32 hours, 32 hours, three minutes,” Sean said.

His goal is 34 hours, and his family and community will be there to support him.

"My hope is that Sean just has a great time,” said Kelly. “He goes for his goal whether he makes it or not. He'll see how much people support him and are just impressed he would try to go for it.”

Sean has a lot of rules to follow, from timed breaks and people not getting too close to him while he’s on the swing. Instead of officials from Guinness World Records, the entire event will be filmed, timed and community members have signed paperwork to officially witness his goal to set a world record.

“I’m very excited for Sean, the whole town is excited for him,” said Kelly.

His quest for the Guinness World Record starts Thursday at 7 a.m.

For other youngsters chasing their dreams, Sean ended with this:

“Work hard for it and don’t give up.”

Sean hopes to complete the 34 hour swing session Friday at 5 p.m.
