ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A new treatment facility in the Rochester area will be designed to help women fighting addiction, who also have children with them.
A groundbreaking was held Tuesday for Barrington House on East Ridge Road. The three-story facility will accommodate patients who are expecting, or already have children living with them, at the same time.
The state is chipping in $5 million to help with the project, something that Catholic Family Center leaders say is the first of its kind for them.
"So we have organizations and facilities across the county today that serve women, individual women," said Catholic Family Center CEO Marlene Bessette. “But for this level of treatment, this will be the first one that pregnant women can join us, have their children, keep their children and their young children can participate with us, so we're really excited about that."
The new facility will more than double what Barrington House currently handles, offering beds for 23 women and housing for five children.
