ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The city of Rochester broke ground Tuesday on the East Main Street Revitalization Project.

Mayor Lovely Warren says the project has been in the works since she was a councilwoman, but has stalled several times.

The project includes full-depth pavement reconstruction of East Main Street from North Goodman to Culver.

There will also be a 5-foot-wide raised one-way bicycle track on each side of the street.

"This is really about connection, connecting neighborhoods together. We have the neighborhood of the arts on one side. We have the Emma neighborhood, the Beechwood neighborhood. It's really all of them coming together in one spot and Main Street is a place it all connects."

Construction is expected to be completed sometime next year.
