Renee Morris, 38 of Portageville, tragically lost her life in a car crash when a tractor trailer pulled out in front of her SUV on Route 39. A family friend took time out on Friday to honor her legacy, remembering Morris for her love and care for others.
Classmate and friend Amanda Linderman of Warsaw says Morris is remembered by loved ones as a devoted mother of four beautiful daughters, who were her pride and joy.
“She wanted to create a better life for them,” said Linderman.
Renee was just months away from graduating with her nursing degree from Genesee County Community College. Her goal was to further a passion to serve and care for everyone she crossed paths with.
“She had a heart for serving people,” said Linderman. “She would have been an amazing nurse; she poured her heart out to the patients at clinicals. She was the kind of person that if you sat down and talked to her for a few minutes, before you knew it you were pouring your heart out to her about your whole life story. She always knew exactly what to say.”
Amanda says she also remembers Renee for her infectious smile and sense of humor, but most importantly her heart.
“She loved her family,” said Amanda. “She talked about her sisters and parents nonstop. She was so proud of her dad. He was a black belt; she talked about that all the time. She talked about her mother’s heart and her grandmother…”
Amanda says Renee’s faith was important to her. She was a prayer warrior and rock for everyone who knew her.
“She knew how to pray for people and speak to people,” said Amanda, “show love without judgement.”
A GoFundMe page set up in support of the Morris daughters has received an outpouring of support with over $24,000 in donations.
“People from her church,” said Amanda. “People from her past, people who didn’t even know her. They are all just posting all over Facebook; all over the GoFundMe account on just different ways she’s impacted their lives.”
Amanda says their class at Genesee Valley Community College will carry Renee in their hearts as they cross the stage for graduation.
"We’re going to save a seat for her and it will feel like she's there with us,” said Amanda. Take comfort in knowing that the girls have a huge support system. They’re with their dad and he’s a loving dad. One of the biggest things we can do to honor her [Renee’s] memory is to serve.”
