The Genesee Brewery had its sixth annual keg tree lighting Friday, bringing thousands to witness the event.

“Nothing goes better with an ice cold beer than a perfect winter night,” John Offen of Gates said.

The Keg Tree lighting at Genesee Brew House has become quite the winter tradition in Rochester.

“It’s great for the city. It’s Genesee Brewery, and this is part of it," Lori Boehm of Webster said. "It brings people downtown, and it’s great for the community."

Thousands come to enjoy the lights, the food and of course, the beer. The event grows every year, and this time sported a “tree” of 530 kegs and 30,000 lights, weighing a whopping 8 tons.

“It’s something different that you don’t see anywhere else," Offen said. "Where else do you see that but in Rochester? You don’t.”

The keg tree resonates with everyone the same way, whether its your first time, or sixth.

“You think about a tree getting lit up and it seems a little anti-climactic, but this was really cool and a bit surprising how awesome it was,” Jim Mignano of Chili said.

“If there’s two things we can get behind in Rochester, it’s the holiday season and Genesee beer," Mignano said. "So it’s really awesome that they do this for us.”

If you missed the event, you can see it for yourself through the New Year.
